Ball State University - Letterman Communication and Media Building

Muncie, IN

The new Letterman Communication and Media Building encompasses approximately 85,000 sf between the Bell and Ball Buildings on the Ball State University campus. It is host to the College of Communications, Information and Media. The facility provides classrooms, offices and studios, new interactive studio spaces, and a new Business Incubator space for the University.

A major design feature of the building is a strong axis running from Schaffer Tower in an east-west direction upon which a large open atrium collects and separates the multilevel floors in the structure. Functionally, the main floor houses the College office, large studio spaces, classrooms and Business Incubator space. The second floor provides more classrooms, lab space, and some department office space. While the third floor contains additional lab space and faculty office space.

The incubator space is noteworthy, as it creates an excellent environment for innovative concepts and ideas to be fostered into viable business applications. The incubator is a large, flexible, and technology-rich space. It contains a separate entrance and lobby, conference room, lab area, and office space. The new building will also include a research lab and debate lab with audio and video recording capabilities.

The David Letterman Communication and Media Building is on pace to be BSU's first LEED certified building.
