Lutheran Hospital of Indiana - Childrens Hospital

Fort Wayne, IN

The design for the Lutheran Children's Hospital created a unique opportunity to provide children with a new type of healing environment. Greeting children to the "hospital within a hospital" is a large treehouse elevator. As the symbolic entrance to the new children's hospital, it gives new meaning to the word "treatment."

The 16-room outpatient clinic creates a warm and colorful environment that helps make scary trips to the doctor a little easier. The waiting room greets children of all ages into a facility specifically designed for kids. Engaging children during the design process helped to create a unique space where a child can feel more comfortable. Every aspect of the design, from the lowered counters to the "hidden" tree seat, keeps in mind that children are more than just small adults.
