IU Health North Joe & Shelly Schwarz Cancer Center
August 30, 2018

On August 23, Indiana University Health held a groundbreaking ceremony on the healthcare system’s North Hospital Campus for the new Joe & Shelly Schwarz Cancer Center.  Shelly Schwarz made a $10 million contribution to IU Health in honor of her husband Joe Schwarz (1942-2018).   This new, free-standing oncology facility will be connected to the hospital via an enclosed pedestrian walk-way and provide state-of-the-art cancer treatment services including, radiation oncology, hematology-oncology, pharmacy, laboratory, and integrative health services.

MSKTD & Associates is proud to be leading the design team for this healthcare facility and is honored to finish the project under its new identity recognizing Joe and Shelly Schwarz.  This important project required input from many stakeholders.  Under MSKTD’s leadership, the project team developed a unified design that met the goals of everyone engaged with the building.

Alicia Schulof, president of the IU Health North Suburban Area recognizes the importance of this project by saying:

“Through this investment, IU Health is improving access to care for patients, and bringing treatment closer to home for those living on the north side of Indianapolis and beyond. By creating a new, convenient location for patients to access cancer care rooted in cutting edge research, education and innovation, IU Health North Hospital is extending the reach of the most respected cancer program in the state of Indiana.”

The three-story cancer center will encompass 88,000 square feet and combine all of the oncology services of the hospital into one facility.  The cancer center will be more convenient and efficient for staff, patients and visitors alike. MSKTD & Associates is excited about this new facility and looks forward to seeing the first patients served in the new Joe & Shelly Schwarz Cancer Center beginning January of 2020.
