Patient Room Prototype Design

Indianapolis, Indiana

MSKTD has put its evidence-based design expertise to work on this multi-phased prototypical patient room design. The first prototype was designed, constructed, and evaluated. The project had the following design goals:

  • prevention of nosocomial infections
  • patient safety and fall reduction
  • efficient delivery of medication and supplies/equipment

Our designers worked closely with facility and clinical staff to further enhance the room design. Medical staff and patients provided meaningful feedback enabling our healthcare design team to develop a phase II room design. Innovative aspects of the patient room include customized headwall with ergonomic features for nurses and physicians, integrated footwall design, storage accommodations for patient and guest use, communication center for family and friends and a highly efficient and safe bathroom.

The hospital staff will evaluate the most recent design prior to universal implementation throughout the facility.
